Advanded Treatments. Caring Touch.
Cancer is a complex and multidimensional disease. If you or a loved one has cancer, choosing a health care team
to help you win the battle may be one of the most important decisions you make.
At St. Joseph Medical Center, we care about you, your family and your fight against cancer.
Our dedicated team of professionals, coordinated by board-certified oncology specialists,
works together to create a personalized treatment plan, specific for you and your type of
cancer. We will give you up-to-date and understandable information about your cancer and treatment. We will
explain the results of diagnostic tests and provide specifics on treatment
options, which could include access to national cooperative group clinical trials when
appropriate, and access to treatment using state-of-the-art technologies and drug therapies.
The New St. Joseph Cancer Center
The new Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology departments are located side by side
in the Cancer Center on the Garden Level of the St. Joseph Medical Office Building. The newly
designed facility groups the oncology specialists together to facilitate more frequent
consultations and better patient coordination. With ground floor access and free parking,
entrance into the Cancer Center is easy and convenient for patients and their families.
The University of Pennsylvania Cancer Network Advantage
The University of Pennsylvania Cancer Network is one of a select group of cancer centers
approved and designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center.
As a member of the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Network, St. Joseph Cancer Center has
access to the latest and most advanced cancer treatment as well as to clinical research trials.
St. Joseph Cancer Center and the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania also
collaborate to offer educational programs such as cancer survivorship and Cancer Risk
Evaluation Program (CREP). CREP is an important program designed to help women access their
risk for developing breast or ovarian cancer. The program offers information, evaluation, genetic
counseling and strategies aimed at reducing the likelihood of developing cancer.
Healing Using State-of-the-Art Technology
St. Joseph Cancer Center treats patients with hematologic (blood) and oncologic (cancer)
diseases. The Medical Oncology Department, under the clinical leadership of Patrick
J. Colarusso, DO, Medical Director of the St. Joseph Cancer Center, offers patients access to leading-edge chemotherapy,
as well as targeted and biological modifier therapies. Medical Oncologists, Nurse Practitioners, and Oncology Nurses
care for patients in our infusion room, which overlooks the hospital's beautiful healing garden.
During weekly Tumor Board sessions, the oncologists interact with a multidisciplinary team of physicians--oncologists, surgeons,
family doctors, pathologists, radiologists, specialists-- who reviews specific patient cases and
makes recommendations for coordinated treatment. Eligible patients are considered for
appropriate pharmaceutical and national cooperative group clinical trials.
