Cardiothoracic and Lung Surgery

The success of open-heart procedures at St. Joseph is well documented. Our CT surgeon specializes in including heart, lung, and heart/lung surgeries, off pump coronary artery bypass, minimally invasive cardiac procedures, mitral valve repair and atrial fibrillation surgery, video assisted lung surgery including lobectomy, extrapleural pneumonectomy (mesothelioma and stage IIIb lung cancer), and esophageal surgery. Critical Care: Our specially-trained and highly experienced Critical Care nurses provide continuous monitoring and care using state-of-the-art equipment. Doctors who are specially trained in the treatment of critically ill patients, called Intensivists, are also on staff. Given the high level of care and monitoring necessary to ensure a successful surgery, all open-heart patients are transferred to Critical Care immediately following surgery.

Telemetry Monitoring: After recovery in the Critical Care Unit, patients are transferred to the Telemetry Unit where staff uses state-of-the-art equipment to continually monitor patients’ conditions and to further guide each patient’s recovery.
