Breastfeeding Support: The Baby Bistro

1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month: 10-11 a.m.

Free; pre-registration is not required; just come!

Come and meet other women who are breastfeeding their babies! This free drop-in group is a collaboration between Berks County Breastfeeding Coalition and Penn State Health St. Joseph that focuses on allowing breastfeeding mothers to support each other in a warm, nurturing environment. Breastfeeding mothers and their babies are welcome to drop in for a cup of tea, relax, and chat with others about what’s going on as a new mom. Staff trained in lactation are available to answer any breastfeeding questions with accurate, up-to-date information. Weight checks are free. Stroke Support Group: Learn | Share | Connect | Inspire

The Stroke Support Group is open to all stroke survivors, families and caregivers. It is an opportunity to share experiences, gain support and strength, increase education and awareness surrounding strokes, mini strokes and TIA’s. Registration is not required and the Stroke Support Group is free to join and open to the community. The group meets the second Tuesday of every month. It will be held in Room #1126 (first floor, 1 North conference room) at St. Joseph Medical Center from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Bereavement Support

The Bereavement Support Group is for anyone experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one. Focusing on aspects of the grieving process, the support group will assist you in understanding how to cope with grief and how to begin turning your mourning into cherished memories of your loved one. The meetings are offered to the public at no charge. If you are interested in the meetings, please contact Sister Rose Dvorak in the Spiritual Care office at St. Joseph Medical Center, 610-378-2297 610-378-2297.

Meeting time: Wednesday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30 pm, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Campus. The bereavement support group meets once a week for seven weeks. There are three sessions offered throughout the year. January-February, May – June, September – October.

Strength for the Journey

Strength for the Journey, a free support group for all cancer patients, meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 11AM-12PM at St. Joseph Cancer Center. Managing Diabetes Course

This 10 hour course which provides comprehensive diabetes self-management training is recognized by the ADA.* Classes are offered weekdays and evenings at St. Joseph Medical Center and Exeter Ridge.

Alzheimer’s Association’s Caregiver Support Group

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Caregiver Support Groups are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. They help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems. The groups encourage caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimally care for the person with dementia. Brain Tumor Support Group

The Department of Neurosurgery at Penn State Health St. Joseph is pleased to provide the opportunity for patients, families and their loved ones to join us in our Brain Tumor Support Group.

Living with a brain tumor is difficult, but a support system can help you get through it. There are many concerns and common issues shared by those who have this diagnosis. Families and patients may feel overwhelmed and alone.

Through our support group, we hope to give patients and families opportunities to talk with knowledgeable people; often healthcare professionals who can help provide valuable information about navigating your disease and treatment.

We hope that by connecting with other resources, you will gain some tips and advice that will ease your concerns, lend assistance and help you realize the support is there, you are not alone.
