A program for the training of Medical Technologists was initiated in the latter part of 1969. It was sponsored by Alvernia College, St. Joseph and Reading Hospitals. Dr. George Desjardins, St. Joseph Hospital Director of Laboratories, stated that students would take a three year academic course at Alvernia College, followed by a one year internship at either of the two hospitals. Completion of the four year program would lead to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology.

Graduates would be eligible to take the examination of the National Board of Registry for medical technologists.
