Minimally-invasive and Robotic-assisted Gynecology Surgery

If you need surgery to care for your condition, the gynecologic surgeons at Penn State Health Women’s Care use minimally invasive surgery techniques whenever possible. Minimally invasive surgery allows the surgeon to perform the procedure without a large incision, resulting in faster recovery time, less pain, decreased risk of infection and bleeding and a quicker return to normal activities.

Surgery can be effective in treating gynecological conditions such as:

  • Abnormal or excessive uterine bleeding
  • Cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries or other pelvic organs
  • Cysts
  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroid tumors
  • Incontinence
  • Pelvic floor disorders
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Some problems that occur during pregnancy

Robotic-assisted surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery using very small surgical instruments that fit through a series of tiny incisions. At Penn State Health St. Joseph, we use the most advanced robotic-assisted technology—the da Vinci XI® surgical robot. This state-of-the-art robotic surgical system allows our surgeons to perform complex procedures with more precision and control.
